Capital Projects Update 2022

Map of Shoreline Capital Improvement Construction Projects

In a letter to Save Shoreline Trees board, dated June 1, 2020, City Engineer Tricia Juhnke encourages us to “attend or participate in outreach efforts and/or reach out to project managers during the design process to identify if trees will be removed during construction.”
SST is providing project contact information here and asks members to contact the City about saving our tall conifer trees at the design phase of projects.

175TH ST. CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT City contact: Leif Johansen, Engineer II, CP 206.801.2489

  • Location: along 175th St. from Stone Ave N. to Interstate 5 (I-5)

160TH AND GREENWOOD/INNIS ARDEN INTERSECTION
City contact: Zach Evans, Engineer II CP.  206.801.2428, zevans@shorelinewa.gov

The City approved Shoreline Community College’s Master Development Plan (MDP) with the requirement that the College make long-term improvements to the public road system.  In 2019, the College installed new sidewalks leading to the College entrance at Greenwood /N 160th and NW Innis Arden Way. As part of the MDP agreement, Shoreline Community College is required to improve the intersection at Greenwood Ave N and N 160th St/NW Innis Arden Way by 2025.

  • The City and Shoreline Community College are working towards the selection of the final design concept for this intersection. Options: round-about or signaled intersection. An arborist report will be prepared at the design phase.

  • Per Zach Evans: the round-about concept will require the removal of approximately 5 Significant trees and adds space for new landscaping.

  • The Signalized concept does not require the removal of any additional Significant trees and does not provide space for new landscaping.

  • Timing: the latest the design can occur is 2024, as the construction must be completed by Fall 2025.

  • Unfortunately during the previous sidewalk construction in 2019, several conifer trees were damaged and are now at risk and will probably be designated as hazardous trees. SST is contacting Zach Evans.
